Something I lament wholly is the loss of superhero games. That being, games where you can wield the powers I keep sealed everyday with true, reckless abandon. Whereas I am left to bind my soul, I can at least simulate the joys of true strength in Prototype or its brethren games. (Infamous, The Darkness, Batman Arkham)
It used to live strongly between the periods of 2009 to 2012, but with Second Son releasing in 2014, the genre essentially met its final rest. It's died out wholly, with its successors and pieces adjacent to its present aesthetic either becoming more pop-y and vibrant with every passing second or dying out wholly. Watchdogs used to be about an Ojiisan fighting for the sake of his family, now its parading the fact you can play as an old woman. The elderly must never see combat! Never!
I can only look on sadly due to the nature of this dying art, a proper power fantasy is needed in this day in age where one lives caged, deprieved of any true joy. I just wish I could feel joy at games again, that they could *feel* like games, rather than just another chance for someone to steal my money. It's heartbreaking.
I guess I can only look on now, this ship has wholly sailed. Do not fret, dear reader! I shall create my own! With witchcraft and wizardy! And Familiars! AND YOU KNOW WHAT!? FORGET THE FAMILIARS!!!
